Topic 1: Getting Ready to Learn

First of all, i’m from Shah Alam. I choose UITM because my interest is in diploma architectural interior design residental . Based on my SPM results, it fullfil all the requirements in this courses. I enjoyed my days with making new friends, discuss assignments in group, live together with friends and learning about new things. I determined myself to do things without being order by others. Things are different here between at home. Therefore, some things are making me nervous too if i’m not good enough for my friends, fails in my final project and then disappoint my parents. It causes me overthinking on myself if that things happen. Living in University make me miss my home. I constantly homesick like i miss my mother’s foods and about my dad’s jokes. But i need to grow up because we will not forever being childish. In 10 years from now, i really want to set my goals which is i will have a good job with a good salary, having a beautiful family and be a successful person in my life. I hope that my wish comes true.

Learning Style Inventory

Auditory learners:

-       After you read a page in your textbook, summarize the information out loud in your own words.

-       Tape your instructor’s lecture, and if you are a commuter, listen to the tape on the way home, either in your car, or on the bus or subway.

-       Discuss the material that you have been learning with a friend or study group.

Visual learners:

-       Create mind maps, flow charts, and diagrams using bright colors. Put them where you can view them frequently.

-       Practice building your visual memory.

-       Rewrite your notes using different colors.

Kinesthetic learners:

-       Use your hands. Cut up charts and diagrams. Create flash cards and move them around with large, sweeping movements.

-       Type on a computer keyboard. You are using your muscle memory.

(learning style inventory test)

How the test works is you will have to answer the yes-or-no questions and write down the numbers with answers yes. Next, classify the numbers to which is V, A and K. V stands for visual, A stands for auditory and K is kinaesthetic. These are the three main learning styles. Sum up the total value from each class and the number with the highest number will be learning style.

☆ Know the embracing help from peer tutoring is about improving your skills

☆ Attending class regulary is essential

Topic 2: Goal Setting

What is a GOAL?

goal is a vision of an idea of the the future or a desired result that everyone envisions, plans and and commits to achieve. A goal is roughlg similar to a purpose or an aim, the anticipated result which guides reaction, or an end, which is an object, wether if its physical nor an abstract object. That has intrinsic value. Personally, for me a goal is mainly based on the lifestyle someone dreams to be in the future and the life of the hereafter. I would always remind myself of the hadith, words by Rasululah S.A.W which says ” work as if you were live for a thousands years and pray as if you were to die tomorrow”. I set those words as my principal and I am fully grateful for who I have become today.

The Five Steps Approach

Specific and Well-Define

– Being specific and well-defined is the foundation for any goal because if you dont know where the end zone is, you will be clueless on how to score for your goal. Each person have different speacial goals and each of those goals can be achieved in different ways but some may require specific ways and procedures to achieve. The most important thing is that you have to know where to go and where you are leading yourself into.

Measurable In Nature

– Measureable in nature refers to the fact that a goal has to have a rule or a scoreboard attached to it. In order to make ourselves better and to improve our own capabilities and skills we must know when and how to push ourselves above our limits. If we tend to just go by what to achive with the same results we would only make ourselves good and not better which should make us great.

Be An Active Learner

– In order to learn well and be able to fully absorb information into long-term memory we must be creative in our own way and not just rely on lectures and notes. Some may have to recite or make notes a couple of times, but for me, I would have to apply the information in my daily tasks or physically do a task that requires the information given. Another way that helps is by making jokes with the information which makes a personal connection between my doings and the info.

Participate In Class

– Participating in class can come many ways. The idea is to be an active student in class especially through activities given. Give feedbacks, ask questions, help around with your classmates, and many more. Easy to say, make your class a lively place to learn and not some boring class that you will get tired of at some point. This will also lead to a cheerful and lively environment to study and that will be good for both the lecturer and the students.

Attend All Classes

– Attending classes is very important especially for the ones that requires credit hours. This is important because information will be given and questions for tests will be given by lecturers. Moreover, this will give you a bad image to the lecturer that will not be good for you for many reasons. Skipping class is never good and once you start skipping class it will become a habit or a desire will be built in your establishment.

Academic goals

Academicly, I personally want to ace my results and make my way to the dean’s list and make my parents proud of who i have become and what I have achieved. I also want to improve my socializing skills and my psychologycal knowledge.

Career Goals

I see myself a person who has to get around and active with my work to be comfortable and enjoy, not tired of what I do. I wish to be a news anchor or tv host. While I have a daily job I would have my side job going freelance. The reason why I choose to do so is that I believe in each person lives different prespectives and ways of thinking. That means there is a lot more possibilities of knowledge and experience that can be shared. I am a person who desire knowledge and have the urge to know about things espeacially rare skills and objects. I want to see things that none has ever seen and do the things none has ever done. I want to do the things people can only wish to do. All I can do now is work hard and wish for my achievement.

Life Goals

My life goal is to make my parents live a happy life now and the here after. Also to have a great and healthy lifestyle for myself, to keep learning as much as I can and always improve myself as a person and as a muslim.
